friday favorites

In honor of Mother's Day, today's favorite is:

my momma. {pictured at about my age with my cousin Dina}

And she truly is my favorite. I am a momma's girl. I love when I know I've made her proud. Momma is an amazing lady. She's incredibly smart. She's entertaining {though not always intentionally, we love her spacey-ness}. She works damn hard for her family. She's warm. She's kind. She's critical when it's appropriate {and sometimes when it's not. but it's always for the best or at least with the best intentions}. She's supportive {again, when it's appropriate. but she's not afraid to let you know when she doesn't think you're on the right path}. She's my momma and I love her.

A lot of who I am is from mom. Or simply is mom. What I look like. How I walk. My photographic memory. My perfectionism. My critical nature. My work ethic. My love of music and dancing. My ability to fall asleep anywhere. My aptitude for Scrabble. For better or worse I am my mother's daughter. {I say better}

If you've met her, you have to love her. If I love you, you've already been accepted as a member of our family. I just spent the better part of a week with her and the time spent with her was some of the best. Relaxed and happy. I can't wait to do it again.

Of course, I wish she lived closer. And, despite our distance this Mother's Day, I will be thinking of her {as I often do}.

My favorite: my mom. {happy mother's day}

Today's favorite: Kate Middleton hair...I typically call it my "big southern hair" {and typically has more fullness on top} but today it was especially almost-royal.

**I couldn't get the photo color right but even my hair coloring is quite Catherine right now

And what better way to represent royalty then with my ultra-casual clothes & Pumas.

Late post. Better late then never!

friday favorites

The favorites have returned...

I began a "series" and then completely failed at getting anything posted on Friday!

To be honest, this post was intended for last Friday. New month, new start. Guess the joke was on me, because I ran out of time in the day...

I give you "Asian Vegetables."

This has been my savior during lent. Friday means no snacking and no meat (and really only water to drink but I have my routine coffee and tea...what can I say, I do my best). The meat part isn't too hard for me - I have plenty of meals in my repertoire that are completely meatless or we can make fish. But no snacking!? I'm a grazer. I eat when I'm hungry. I eat something little. Then, an hour or two later, I eat something little again.

Lenten Fridays mean 2 small meals, one larger meal. That's where the asian veg come in. Lots of veggies, nuts, pasta. Small portion. Well rounded. Gets me through. Recently, I've been tossing in some flaxseeds for added fiber and omega-3s. And a little more texture.

My mighty mini meal.

Wine & Chocolate

Nothing says lovely evening at home quite like these things.

(and, as in today's case, the greatest stress reliever)

friday favorites

Today I am starting a new series: Friday Favorites.

There are so many things I use all the time that I'd love to share.

This week it's my teacup. My trusty, thin, Disney teacup. Warn paint. Faded gold trim.

My Aunt Kathy bought it for my mom who knows how long ago. Mom has a similar one at home with Mickey and the general Disney gang on it. If something were to ever happen to our apartment and I could only grab one thing, this would be my thing (besides David, but I'd certainly hope he could carry himself). It's so sentimental. David won't wash it for fear of being responsible for breaking it. We wouldn't even let it go with the rest of the dishes when we moved.

I love it.
